[ Call to Order by Mayor Roll Call Invocation by Mayor Andrews Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag by Commissioner Donahue Presentation to Brentwood School Principals Presentation to Recreation Service Providers Presentation to Community Service Providers]
[00:00:04]
ALL RIGHT, WE'RE GONNA CALL TO ORDER THIS MEETING OF THE BRENTWOOD BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS.
I'D LIKE TO RECOGNIZE THAT ALL THE COMMISSIONERS ARE PRESENT TONIGHT.
THANK YOU FOR ALL BEING HERE, AND I'VE GOT A GOOD CROWD IN THE AUDIENCE, AND I SEE SOMEBODY FAMILIAR, FRIENDLY FACES.
ALL RIGHT, SO WE'LL START OUT WITH THE INVOCATION, IF EVERYONE COULD PLEASE RISE.
WELL, LORD, THANKS FOR THE OPPORTUNITY AND PRIVILEGE TO COME TOGETHER AND WORK FOR THE BETTERMENT OF OUR COMMUNITY.
AS WE DISCUSSED THE OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES IN BRENTWOOD, HELP US TO BE CONTINUALLY GRATEFUL FOR THE BLESSINGS OF THIS COMMUNITY AND FOR THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE IT THEIR HOME.
PLEASE WATCH OVER OUR FIRST RESPONDERS EVERYWHERE AS THEY WORK TO HELP OTHERS AND HELP US DO WHAT WE CAN TO SUPPORT THEM.
AND THANK YOU FOR ALL THE EDUCATORS AND OTHER COMMUNITY SERVANTS THAT ARE HERE AND ALL THE TIME, CARE, TALENT, AND LOVE THEY PUT INTO OUR, OUR KIDS AND OUR COMMUNITY.
PLEASE BLESS THIS COMMISSION WITH THE WISDOM AND DISCERNMENT AS WE WORK TO MAKE GOOD DECISIONS ON BEHALF OF OUR COMMUNITY.
AND THANK YOU FOR ALL THE BLESSINGS IN OUR LIVES.
IN JESUS' NAME WE PRAY, AND ALL THE LORD'S PEOPLE SAY AMEN.
ALL RIGHT, THEN WE HAVE THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TONIGHT BY COMMISSIONER DONAHUE.
I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.
SO THIS IS A VERY FUN NIGHT FOR ALL OF US TONIGHT.
WE'RE GONNA START OUT, UH, TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT WE GET TO, UH, TAKE SOME OF THE MONEY THAT WE HAVE, UM, IN OUR BUDGET AND INVEST IT IN THE COMMUNITY SERVICES THAT GO SO MUCH TO HELP OUR KIDS AND COMMUNITY.
SO STARTING OUT, WE'RE GONNA DO THE PRESENTATION FOR ALL OF OUR BRENTWOOD SCHOOL PRINCIPALS THAT ARE HERE.
SO, UH, I GUESS IF Y'ALL COULD ARRANGE YOURSELVES IN ORDERLY FASHION AND, UH, APPROACH THE MICROPHONE, INTRODUCE YOURSELVES AND, UH, TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT, UM, YOU KNOW, WHAT'S GOING ON AT THE SCHOOL AND HOW YOU'D USE THIS, UH, THIS FUNDING.
OH, I CAN GO FIRST AND, AND YOU ARE WELCOME, BUT NOT REQUIRED TO BRING, UH, ALONG YOUR SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS OR, UH, WILLIAMSON COUNTY, UH, SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT IF YOU'D LIKE.
I'M PRINCIPAL AT BRENTWOOD HIGH SCHOOL.
WE DO HAVE JASON GOLDEN, OUR SUPERINTENDENT WITH US, AND MELISSA WYATT, WHO IS OUR SCHOOL BOARD REPRESENTATIVE, UM, FROM BRENTWOOD.
AND SO WE'RE EXCITED THAT THEY COULD JOIN US.
I'M GLAD I GOT TO GO FIRST, UM,
BUT THERE'S ALSO A PRINCIPLE, I WANNA SAY THANK YOU TOO, BECAUSE THIS IS GONNA BE HER LAST CITY OF, UH, BRENTWOOD COMMISSION MEETING.
PAM VADEN IS RETIRING AT THE END OF THE YEAR, AND DON'T USE THE WORD RETIRE.
VADEN IS NOT RETIRING AT THE END OF THE YEAR, BUT SHE'S GONNA GO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT NEXT, BUT SHE'S NOT GONNA BE WITH US ANYMORE.
AND, UM, JUST AS YOU KNOW, WE HAD THE PLEASURE OF RECOGNIZING MR. PARKER, THE FIRST PRINCIPAL AT BRENTWOOD HIGH SCHOOL THIS SUMMER AFTER HIS PASSING.
I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT I HAD THIS OPPORTUNITY, UM, IN, BEFORE YOU TO SAY WHAT A GREAT JOB, UH, DR.
VADEN HAS DONE AND WHAT AN IMPACT SHE HAS HAD ON THE, THE CITIZENS OF BRENTWOOD, BOTH AT, WHEN SHE WAS AT BRENTWOOD HIGH SCHOOL AND WHAT SHE'S DONE AT RAVENWOOD HIGH SCHOOL.
AND SO I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE THANKED HER AS WELL.
AND SO I JUST THINK, YOU KNOW, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
MUCH Y CONTINUE UP YOU VERY MUCH.
I'M PAM VADEN, PRINCIPAL OF RAVENWOOD, AND YOU KNOW, THIS YEAR WE'RE REAL, WE'RE MORE APPRECIATIVE OF EV THAN EVER, UH, FOR THE, UH, CONTRIBUTION THAT BRENTWOOD GIVES US, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THE CLASS FEES ARE NO LONGER IN EXISTENCE AND WE'RE, UH, DEPENDING ON DONATIONS.
AND SO YOU GIVE US THE CONFIDENCE THAT WE CAN GO FORWARD, UH, GIVING OUR STUDENTS THE BEST WE CAN GIVE THEM WITH YOUR RESOURCES.
I THOUGHT ABOUT THAT ON THE WAY OVER.
IT'S JUST FEELS SO, UH, SETTLING THAT WE HAVE THIS, UH, EXTRA RESOURCE.
AND I HAVE A, WE HAVE A LOT OF THINGS GOING ON.
[00:05:01]
TWO TENOR SAXOPHONES, A FLUA HORN, A THREE VIOLINS, TWO VIOLAS, YOU KNOW, IT JUST GOES ON AND ON.WE COULD NOT DO THAT WITHOUT YOUR CONTRIBUTION.
ALSO, WE ARE IN THE PRO PROCESS OF OUR SECOND PHASE OF UPDATING OUR RPAC, UH, BECAUSE THE, UH, EQUIPMENT IN THERE IS 24 YEARS OLD, I BELIEVE.
AND SO THAT, YOU KNOW HOW EXPENSIVE THAT IS.
SO THOSE ARE THE THINGS THAT WE'RE GOING FOR THIS YEAR, AND WE, IT'LL MAKE A BIG, HUGE DIFFERENCE AT RAVENWOOD.
I'M MARISSA BLOCK PRINCIPAL AT WOODLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL.
UM, AND I ALSO AM A PARENT OF TWO RAVENWOOD RAPTORS.
SO I ALWAYS LIKE TO TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO THANK YOU ALL FOR USING MY TAX DOLLARS IN THE CITY OF BRENTWOOD TO ALSO FUND WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO IN THE SCHOOLS.
UM, AT WOODLAND, WE'VE USED THE MONEY YEAR AFTER YEAR, AND WE'LL CONTINUE THIS YEAR TO REPLACE OUR CLASSROOM FURNITURE.
IT'S 30 YEARS OLD AND IT WAS BUILT TO LAST, BUT IT IS, UH, NO LONGER AESTHETICALLY PLEASING.
AND IT PULLS HAIR WHEN YOU SIT DOWN IN THE CHAIRS.
SO WE, UH, IT'S ABOUT $8,000 NOW TO REPLACE JUST ONE CLASSROOM, UM, WITH 32 DESKS AND CHAIRS.
SO WE LOOK FORWARD TO JUST KIND OF ADDING UP HOW MANY CLASSROOMS WE CAN GET EVERY TIME WE, UH, COME HERE AND WHEN WE DO OUR FUNDRAISERS IN THE BUILDING.
SO WE APPRECIATE Y'ALL, AND THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
HI, I AM A NEW PRINCIPAL IN WILLIAMSON COUNTY.
I HAVE BEEN IN THE COUNTY SINCE I STARTED MY CAREER AS A TEACHER AT SUNSET, SO I'M BACK NOW AS PRINCIPAL.
I'VE WORKED AT GRASSLAND MIDDLE AND AT THOMPSON STATION MIDDLE.
SO I'VE BEEN IN WILLIAMSON COUNTY A LONG TIME NOW.
I'M STILL GETTING TO LEARN MY FACULTY AND OUR NEEDS AS A SCHOOL.
UM, BUT WE ARE LOOKING TO GET SOME SPEAKERS FOR OUTSIDE SO WE CAN, UM, MAKE SURE OUR GAMES ARE HEARD AND WE CAN, UM, COMMUNICATE WELL THROUGH THAT.
WE'RE ALSO LOOKING FOR SOME BLUETOOTH TRANSMITTERS AND, UM, PUTTING SOME MONEY TOWARDS AN APPLICATION TO HELP US CELEBRATE STUDENTS' GREAT BEHAVIOR.
HEY, TRENT SATTERFIELD, A PRINCIPAL AT EDMONDSON ELEMENTARY.
WE ARE ACTUALLY CELEBRATING OUR 30TH YEAR THIS YEAR.
WE HAD A BIG CELEBRATION A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, A COUPLE OF FRIDAYS AGO.
UM, AND IT WAS JUST REALLY NEAT JUST TO SEE ALL OF THE FAMILIES AND THE FORMER STAFF COME BACK, OUR COMMUNITY JUST KIND OF EMBRACING EVANSON.
AND A BIG PART OF THAT IS THE CONTRIBUTIONS THAT YOU ALL HAVE MADE TO EVANSON, UH, JUST TO ENHANCE THE EDUCATION PROGRAM THAT WE PROVIDE OUR KIDS.
UM, EDMONDSON'S A REALLY SPECIAL PLACE BECAUSE OF, OF, OF YOUR COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION.
UH, THIS YEAR WE ARE GOING TO USE THE FUNDS TO CONTINUE TO REPLACE FURNITURE BEING 30 YEARS OLD.
UM, IT, IT DOES, IT DOES TAKE A LITTLE WHILE TO, TO GET ALL YOUR FURNITURE REPLACED AND THEN, UM, WE'RE ALSO GONNA USE IT FOR SOME PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR OUR TEACHERS.
SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOU DO FOR US.
HI, I AM TINA AARON, AND I AM THE SECOND YEAR PRINCIPAL OF SUNSET ELEMENTARY.
AND FUN FACT, I WAS THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT THOMPSON STATION WHILE ALLISON WAS THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF THE MIDDLE SCHOOL THERE, AND NOW WE'RE BACK TOGETHER AT SUNSET.
SO WE'RE SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THAT.
UM, SUNSET IS GONNA BE 20 YEARS OLD THIS YEAR.
SO ALLISON AND I ARE PLANNING A SUPER COOL COMMUNITY EVENT, EVENT IN APRIL, END OF APRIL.
SO HOPEFULLY YOU GUYS CAN COME OUT FOR THAT.
UM, I ALSO WANNA SAY THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THE KIDDOS, UM, THAT LIVE IN BRENTWOOD THAT GO TO SUNSET, AND, UM, REALLY APPRECIATE IT.
AND THE MONEY FOR US THIS YEAR.
UM, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU KNOW IT, BUT THERE'S THIS THING WINDOWS 11 AND, UM, ALL OF OUR DOCUMENT CAMERAS DON'T MATCH WITH WINDOWS 11.
SO WE'LL USE SOME OF THAT MONEY TO UPGRADE THE DOCUMENT CAN CAMERAS SO OUR TEACHERS CAN CONTINUE TO PRESENT IN FRONT OF THE KIDDOS.
HI, REBECCA LFE, PRINCIPAL OF KEN ROSE.
AND I LOVE SHARING WITH CLASSES, UM, DIFFERENT WAYS, WAYS THAT DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE COMMUNITY HELP SUPPORT OTHER PARTS OF THE COMMUNITY.
SO TODAY I WAS IN A CLASSROOM AND I WAS SHARING THAT TONIGHT I WAS COMING TO THIS MEETING AND I CAME BACK TO MY OFFICE AFTER SHARING THAT, AND THEY MADE YOU A CARD.
UM, BUT THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL OF YOU DO.
UM, AS SOME OF MY COLLEAGUES HAVE SAID, WE HAVE FURNITURE TO REPLACE AND WE HAVE SOME DOCUMENT CAMERAS TO REPLACE, SO WE'LL BE USING THE MONEY FOR THAT.
BUT WE GREATLY APPRECIATE ALL THAT YOU DO FOR US AND THE SUPPORT THAT YOU GIVE.
AND OUR STUDENTS VERY MUCH APPRECIATE IT AS WELL.
I AM THE PRINCIPAL OF CROCKETT ELEMENTARY.
AND SO HAPPY TO BE HERE THIS EVENING.
AND JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS FOR ALL OF THE SUPPORT THAT YOU PROVIDE TO US AT CROCKETT.
WE SO MUCH APPRECIATE, UM, THE EXTRAS THAT WE CAN DO FOR OUR STUDENTS AND OUR STAFF WITH THE FUNDING THAT, THAT YOU PROVIDE.
[00:10:01]
UPDATING OUR SOUND SYSTEM SO THAT WE ARE PERFORMANCE READY IN OUR CAFETERIA, AND NOW WE'RE MOVING TOWARD THE GYMNASIUM AND, UM, WE'RE TRYING TO MEET MONTHLY WITH OUR STUDENTS IN ASSEMBLIES.AND SO WE REALLY WANT TO REVAMP THE SOUND MICROPHONES AND THOSE TYPES OF THINGS SO THAT WE CAN, UM, GATHER TOGETHER AS A COMMUNITY.
I ALSO WANT TO THANK YOU FOR, FOR YOUR RESOURCE OF TIME.
UM, COMMISSIONER TRAVIS, UH, JOINS US EVERY YEAR.
UM, VICE MAYOR LITTLE HAS JOINED US PREVIOUSLY TO HELP US WITH OUR SPELLING BEE.
UM, THANKS TO
SO WE ARE SO GRATEFUL FOR YOUR TIME.
OUR KIDS LOVE SEEING YOU IN THE BUILDING, SO THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I'M MICHELLE TIC AND I'M THE PRINCIPAL AT LIPSCOMB ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
AND IT'S JUST A PLEASURE TO BE HERE EVERY YEAR TO RECEIVE THIS DONATION THAT YOU ALL GRACIOUSLY GIVE US FOR OUR STUDENTS AND OUR SCHOOLS.
WE WORK WITH OUR PTO TO DETERMINE WHAT WE NEED AND, UM, LIKE MANY OF MY COLLEAGUES SAID, IT SEEMS TO GO IN WAVES THAT WE ARE ON THE FURNITURE TRAIN.
SO WE, UM, LIPSCOMB I THINK IS 160 YEARS OLD THIS YEAR, BUT OUR FURNITURE'S NOT 160 SO
IT'S, UM, I LIKED HOW YOU SAID IT'S NOT AESTHETICALLY APPEALING ANYMORE.
AND SO THAT'S KIND OF WHERE WE ARE.
SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR GENEROSITY.
WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOU AND ALL THAT YOU DO FOR US, AND IT'S JUST A GREAT PLACE TO BE ABLE TO LIVE AND WORK AND BE IN THE BRENTWOOD COMMUNITY.
SO ANN, DOES THAT 160 YEAR OLD NUMBER, DOES THAT STAND UP FOR THE HISTORIC COMMITTEE AUDIT? OH YEAH.
SO ORIGINAL LOCATION, BOILING SPRINGS.
PARDON ME? THE ORIGINAL LOCATION.
BUT LIPSCOMB THE CLOSE SECOND.
ALTHOUGH WE DO NEED FURNITURE.
UM, WE DO HAVE SOMETHING EXCITING CALLED THE MOVEMENT LAB THIS YEAR AT OUR SCHOOL.
AND BASICALLY IT'S A SPACE FOR OUR STUDENTS SEPARATE FROM PE, UM, TO GET THE WIGGLES OUT.
WE KNOW THAT AN ELEMENTARY, AN ACTIVE BRAIN IS A BRAIN READY TO LEARN.
SO WE'VE STARTED ADDING SOME THINGS LIKE A ROCK CLIMBING WALL AND SOME THINGS WHERE, UH, STUDENTS CAN SPEND SOME TIME IN THERE.
SO WE'RE GONNA ADD TO THAT MOVEMENT LAB THIS YEAR.
AND OUR TEACHERS ARE EXCITED ON THOSE RAINY DAYS AND COLD DAYS.
UH, WE WANNA GET SOME, GET SOME ENERGY OUT AND GET THOSE KIDDOS READY TO LEARN.
SO WE'RE GONNA ADD SOME THINGS TO THAT MOVEMENT LAB, SOME EQUIPMENT, UH, SOUND SYSTEMS, SO THAT WAY WE CAN REALLY MAXIMIZE THAT AND MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE READY TO LEARN IN THE CLASS.
SO THAT'S ONE OF THE WAYS WE'LL SPIN OUR FUNDS.
WE'RE ALSO GONNA ADD SOME CHAIRS FOR A COUPLE GRADE LEVELS WHERE WE'RE AGING OUT OF SOME FURNITURE.
BUT THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND WE'LL EX UH, UH, GLADLY HAVE YOU COME TO THE MOVEMENT LAB.
WHEN IT'S READY TO GO, I'D LOVE FOR YOU TO CHECK IT OUT.
I AM THE FOUNDING PRINCIPAL, PROUD FOUNDING PRINCIPAL OF JORDAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
WE STARTED OUR EIGHTH YEAR THIS YEAR.
IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE THAT WE'RE ALREADY EIGHT YEARS IN.
AND SO, UH, WE JUST WANNA THANK YOU GUYS FOR YOUR COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION AND, AND SO APPRECIATIVE OF YOUR SUPPORT.
UM, WE'VE USED THE MONEY IN THE LAST FEW YEARS FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.
WE'RE GONNA CONTINUE TO USE, USE IT FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, BUT LIKE OTHERS, WE NEED SOME NEW DOCUMENT CAMERAS TO AID IN THE PROCESS OF TEACHING AND LEARNING.
UM, SOME OF OUR ARE GETTING OLDER.
TECHNOLOGY DOESN'T LAST FOREVER, AND IT, IT HAS A SHORT SHELF LIFE.
SO WE KNOW WE NEED THOSE FOR OUR CLASSROOMS AND WE'RE GONNA BE PUTTING A LITTLE MONEY TOWARDS THAT AS WELL.
BUT AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
THEY DON'T HAVE A TALL MICROPHONE.
SO I'M JUST, I, I, I'M NOT DR.
BILL HARLAN
UM, BUT WE HAVE OPEN HOUSE TONIGHT AND HE'S HOSTING AND GREETING AND PARENTS AND THINGS LIKE THAT.
I WILL HAVE Y'ALL 10 CARDS BY HERE,
I'LL HAVE 10 CARDS NEXT WEEK FOR YOU.
AND JUST SOME OF Y'ALL, WE GOT SOME ROOMS WE NOT USING.
WE GOT BRAND NEW STUFF JUST SITTING THERE.
BUT ANYWAY, I I, I'D LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU PUT INTO THE SCHOOL.
THEY, THEY, THEY LIKE TO THANK US AS EDUCATORS FOR WHAT WE, WE PUT INTO OUR STUDENTS.
IT IS DIFFICULT FOR US TO PUT INTO THE STUDENTS WHEN WE ALL ALWAYS HAVE WANTS.
WHAT YOU'RE DOING WITH, WITH THE MONEY THAT YOU'RE CONTRIBUTING TO THE SCHOOL ALLOWS YOU TO PUT INTO US SO WE CAN PUT INTO THEM.
SO IT'S JUST A, THAT'S A GOOD CYCLE RIGHT THERE.
BRENTWOOD MIDDLE SCHOOL, WE'RE GONNA USE OUR FOR TECHNOLOGY APPS FOR OUR COURSE SPORTS, UH, COURSES OF ELA, SCIENCE, SOCIAL STUDIES
[00:15:01]
AND MATH.AND ALSO IT IS A BIG SCHOOL NOW, SO WE GOTTA DO A LITTLE DECORATING AS WELL.
SO, BUT I WANTED TO THANK YOU ON BEHALF OF DR.
HARLAN AND THE REST OF OUR ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF AND TEACHERS THERE.
IF YOU WANT A TOUR, UH, COME BY.
UH, DON'T ASK FOR ME 'CAUSE I'M NOT WALKING ALL OVER THE SCHOOL ANYWAY, BUT WE'LL,
SO, UH, WE'RE GONNA DO A PICTURE WITH ALL OF THE EDUCATORS AFTER WE DO THE REST OF THE, UH, I GUESS THE, UM, THE, THE TALKS.
SO WE'LL KIND OF GATHER UP HERE IN A LITTLE BIT.
SO IF Y'ALL COULD HANG AROUND IF YOU WILL.
SO AFTER OUR SCHOOL PROVIDERS, WE HAVE THE RECREATIONAL SERVICE PROVIDERS.
SO IF THERE ARE ANY REPS HERE FROM, UH, OUR VARIOUS RECREATIONAL SERVICE PROVIDERS THAT WOULD LIKE TO, UH, COME ON UP AND, UH, AND TALK.
I, UH, RUN THE BRENTWOOD BALL CLUB PROGRAM.
SO WE HAVE A BIG PARTNERSHIP WITH YOU GUYS IN TERMS OF OUR TURF FIELDS OUTTA CROCKETT.
UH, WE'RE ABOUT YEAR THREE OR FOUR AND, UH, YOU KNOW, IT'S, IT'S BEEN REALLY, REALLY GOOD BENEFIT FOR US.
YOU KNOW, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE OFTEN SAY IS WE DON'T NECESSARILY NEED MORE SPACE.
SO WHEN IT RAINS, WE'RE ABLE TO PLAY ON THOSE TURF FIELDS.
UM, I WAKE UP EVERY DAY KIND OF JUST EXCITED THAT, UH, MY JOB IS YOUTH BASEBALL, YOUTH SOFTBALL.
SO I HAVE 35 YEARS PROFESSIONALLY DOING SOMETHING ELSE.
AND THIS IS WHAT I DO IN MY RETIREMENT.
SO I'M REALLY, REALLY APPRECIATE EVERYTHING THAT THE CITY OF BRENTWOOD DOES FOR US.
WE WORK DAILY WITH THE PARK REC DEPARTMENT, MIKE ALI AND DAVE BUN, AND THEY'RE REALLY GOOD PARTNERS FOR US AND WE REALLY APPRECIATE THAT.
UH, IN TERMS OF OUR MONEY, UM, WE HAVE, UH, AN ANNUAL INVESTMENT THAT WE DO BACK INTO THE TURF FIELD.
SO THAT'LL TAKE, UH, THAT'LL TAKE A LOT OF THAT.
AND SO A GREAT PARTNERSHIP ON THAT.
HELLO, MY NAME IS NATHAN WIMSATT.
I DID NOT KNOW I WAS GOING TO BE HERE UNTIL ABOUT AN HOUR AGO, SO APOLOGIZE IF I DON'T LOOK VERY PREPARED, BUT WELL, I THINK YOU'LL HAVE PRACTICE TONIGHT, DON'T YOU? PRETTY MUCH.
UH, RICK ERICKSON DOES APOLOGIZE.
HE WAS NOT ABLE TO MAKE IT TONIGHT.
HE HAD, UH, AN EVENT, I BELIEVE WITH ONE OF HIS ELDER SONS GOING ON, THAT IT WAS A LITTLE BIT IMPORTANT FOR HIM TO BE THERE.
UM, I JUST WANNA SAY THAT WE GREATLY APPRECIATE YOU ALL'S, UH, SUPPORT HERE.
THE, THE ONE THING I DO NOTICE WITH THE BRENTWOOD BLAZE COMPARED TO OTHER COMMUNITIES IN OUR LEAGUE IS THEY DON'T ALWAYS HAVE THE BACK OF THEIR, OF THEIR CITY OR, OR OF THEIR COUNCIL.
UH, NOT TO THE DEGREE THAT WE DO HERE AT BRENTWOOD.
UH, THERE ARE LEVELS TO THE GAME TO, YOU KNOW, TO BE BLUNT, SO TO SPEAK.
AND YOUR ALL'S SUPPORT IS JUST, IT'S, IT'S, IT'S MONUMENTAL COMPARED TO WHAT WE'RE SEEING OUT THERE.
UM, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT MAKES P WHERE BLAZE, IN MY OPINION, BETTER THAN OTHERS OUTSIDE OF THE CHILDREN, BUT ALSO THE, THE, THE VOLUNTEERS AND THE COACHES IS, IS OUR EQUIPMENT.
UM, OUR EQUIPMENT IS SECOND TO NONE.
OUR HELMETS ARE TOP-NOTCH AS FAR AS SAFETY STANDARDS ARE CONCERNED.
UM, OUR, OUR PADS VICE VERSA, YOU KNOW, THE ALSO SUPER, SUPER JUST ELITE COMPARED TO OTHER COMMUNITIES.
UM, THIS YEAR WE'VE HAD A, A, A RECORD YEAR.
WE HAVE OVER 500 KIDS PARTICIPATING IN THE, IN THE ORGANIZATION.
I THINK WE'RE AT 25 TEAMS, WHICH I BELIEVE IS ALSO ANOTHER RECORD.
UH, WITH THAT THOUGH, COMES THE HEAVY EXPENSE OF, OF, OF BUYING NEW, NEW HELMETS, NEW SHOULDER PADS, NEW APPROPRIATE GAME PANTS THAT HAVE THE APPROPRIATE PADDING OVER THE KNEES AND THE THIGHS, AND THEN THE BACK AREA.
UM, WE'VE ALSO HAD TO, UH, REFURB MANY OF OUR HELMETS 'CAUSE THEY'VE JUST, THEY'VE GONE OUTTA DA, UH, OUTTA DATE.
THE PADS INSIDE HAVE, HAVE LOST SPEC.
UH, THE PLASTICS HAVE, HAVE LOST SPEC, SO WE WOULD'VE TO SEND THOSE OFF TO THE, UH, THE MANUFACTURER TO GET REFURBISHED TO MAKE SURE THAT THOSE SAFETY STANDARDS ARE, ARE, ARE UP TO PAR.
AND THEN LASTLY, WE'VE BEEN, UH, MOVING TO HOSTING OUR, OUR, UH, OUR LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS.
UH, WE HAVE SOME NEW SCOREBOARDS IN PLACE, BUT THE AUDIO EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN RATHER SUBSTANDARD.
SO WE'VE BEEN PUTTING JUST A COUPLE EXTRA DOLLARS IN, UH, INTO THOSE PRESS BOXES.
AND, UH, THAT'S PRIMARILY WHERE, WHERE YOU ALL'S GENEROSITY AND SUPPORT IS GOING TO.
SO WE, WE GREATLY APPRECIATE YOU ALL.
I'M TRACY JERNIGAN AND I'M WITH THE BRENTWOOD YMCA FULL CIRCLE PROGRAM.
AND THIS IS PHYLLIS ADAMS. AND RANDY, WE, UH, JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR GENEROSITY AND YOUR SUPPORT OF OUR PROGRAM.
AS YOU KNOW, THE FULL CIRCLE PROGRAM WORKS, UM, WITH INDIVIDUALS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES.
[00:20:01]
AND WE HAVE A DAY PROGRAM AND A HIGH SCHOOL HANGOUT, UM, SPORTS AND FITNESS.UM, AND IT, THE, THE GENEROSITY, BECAUSE OF THE GENEROSITY FROM YOU ALL, WE WERE ABLE TO PURCHASE, UH, PROGRAMMING FOR OUR INTERACTIVE TV THAT FOCUSES ON ADULTS.
YOU CAN FIND LOTS OF PROGRAMS FOR, UM, FOCUSED ON YOUNGER CHILDREN.
UM, BUT ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES HAS BEEN SOMETHING THAT WE HAVE SEARCHED FOR AND FINALLY HAVE FOUND.
AND SO WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE THAT INVESTMENT THIS YEAR AND OUR STUDENTS LOVE IT AND THEY ARE REALLY ABLE TO ENGAGE.
THEY HAVE, UM, FITNESS PROGRAMS ON THERE AND IT'S LIKE NIGHT AND DAY.
AND SO, UM, WE JUST REALLY APPRECIATE YOU.
WELL, THANK YOU FOR ALL THE WORK YOU DO.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR, FOR YOUR HELP.
IT'S, UM, RANDY HAS PARTICIPATED IN, UM, FULL CIRCLE PROGRAM FROM OVER, UM, 20 YEARS AND JUST SEEING THE PROGRAM REALLY GROW AND DEVELOP.
SO HE, HE REALLY ENJOYS ALL OF THE PROGRAMMING.
SO WE'RE VERY THANKFUL FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE.
DO WE HAVE ANYONE ELSE HERE FROM ANY OF OUR, UH, UH, PARTNER AGENCIES, WHETHER, UM, SERVICE PROVIDERS OR RECREATIONAL? WELL, WE'RE THINKING ABOUT IT.
MY NAME IS LIZ SMITH AND I'M NEW THAT I'M THE NEW DIRECTOR OF THE 50 FORWARD MARTIN CENTER AND I'VE BROUGHT A MEMBER HERE TONIGHT.
HER NAME IS SUE KING AND SHE'S ON MY ADVISORY COUNCIL.
SHE'S VERY ACTIVE IN OUR EXERCISE CLASSES AND JUST A WONDERFUL AMBASSADOR FOR, UH, ALL THAT 54 STANDS FOR, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU WANNA SAY ANYTHING
NO, BUT, WELL, LIKE I SAID, WELL I MOVED HERE A YEAR AGO FROM FLORIDA AND, UH, THREE YEARS AGO MY HUSBAND PASSED AWAY AND I WAS IN A REALLY DARK HOLE.
AND THE FIRST THING I DID WHEN I MOVED HERE WAS I WENT TO THE, UH, 50 FORWARD CENTER.
AND HONESTLY, IT JUST BROUGHT ME BACK TO LIFE.
I HAVE JOY, I HAVE PURPOSE, I HAVE THINGS TO DO ALL THE TIME, AND I'M REALLY BUSY.
AND IF IT WASN'T FOR THE CENTER, I DON'T THINK I WOULD HAVE THIS KIND OF A LIFE THAT I HAVE HERE.
WE ARE SO APPRECIATIVE OF THE CONTINUED SUPPORT FOR, FROM THE CITY OF BRENTWOOD.
THIS MONEY IS GONNA GO TOWARDS, UM, SOME EQUIPMENT UPGRADES THAT WILL ALLOW US TO POSSIBLY EXPLORE, EXPLORE SERVING LUNCHES TO OUR OLDER ADULTS ON A DAILY BASIS.
UM, IT'S ALSO GONNA GO TO FACILITY UPGRADES AND MAINTENANCE.
UH, OUR WONDERFUL, BEAUTIFUL FACILITY IS, IS OVER 20 YEARS OLD AND IS DUE FOR SOME UPGRADES.
UM, SO WE THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH.
UM, SO I'M WITH, UM, SHARON WITH MCCUMBER HUMAN RESOURCE AGENCY OVER AGAIN.
AND Y'ALL ARE SO GRACIOUS TO GIVE US FUNDING.
SO THE FUNDING WILL BE FOR, UM, MEALS ON WHEELS.
IT TAKES FOOD TO SENIOR CITIZENS, ALSO AS MATCH MONEY FOR TRANSPORTATION FOR OUR VANS THAT GO AROUND AND TAKE SENIORS TO THE DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS.
AND THEN ALSO FOR ADVOCACY WORK AND LONG-TERM CARE FACILITIES WITH OUR OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM.
SO WE APPRECIATE EVERYTHING YOU DO.
DO WE HAVE ANYONE ELSE? SO IF NOT, WE'RE GONNA DO THREE PICTURES IF WE CAN.
WE'LL DO THE FIRST ONE WITH THE, UH, SCHOOL PRINCIPALS, SECOND WITH THE RECREATIONAL SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND THE THIRD ONE WITH THE COMMUNITY SERVICE PROVIDERS.
SO I THINK CHARLES IS GETTING THIS SET.
YOU MIGHT WANT TO DO THREE SEPARATE SCHOOL PICTURES.
WELL, I'LL LET CHARLES FIGURE OUT THE PICTURE PROGRAM HOWEVER YOU'D LIKE.
OH, WE'RE GONNA GO DOWN THERE.
WHAT YOU TAKE WITH WHAT? YOU WANT ME TO TAKE IT IN FRONT OF US? THIS IS MY FIRST TIME HERE.
[00:25:10]
I'M NOT SURE I SAID ELEMENTARY, BUT THIS SPORTS ACTUALLY.KELLY, WHAT DO YOU THINK? IS THAT ALRIGHT, CHARLES, 1, 2, 3.
AND CHARLES IS RENOWNED FOR HIS PHOTOGRAPH.
YOU WANNA GRAB SIDE? NO, SURE.
YMCA WITH RECREATION, COMMUNITY YM WITH RECREATION.
THANK CENTERING MEETING VOLUNTEERD.
AND WE HAVE LOST OUR AUDIENCE.
DO YOU NEED A PODIUM,
SO, UH, BUT THE FIRST THING, NOW THAT WE'VE DONE THE FUN PART OF THE MEETING ONTO THE APPROVAL
[2. Approval or Correction of Minutes]
OR CORRECTION OF MINUTES, SO I GUESS FIRST OFF, DO WE HAVE A, A MOTION I MOVE TO APPROVE THE MINUTES FROM AUGUST 11TH.WHAT WAS THAT LAST PART? UH, FROM AUGUST 11.
SO A MOTION BY COMMISSIONER DONAHUE.
SECOND BY COMMISSIONER PIPPEN.
UH, ANY DISCUSSION ON THE MINUTES? ALL RIGHT, SEE, NO DISCUSSION.

ALL COMMENTS SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS AS A WHOLE.
ASSISTANCE WHO WISH TO REQUEST AN ITEM BE MOVED FROM THE CONSENT AGENDA TO THE REGULAR AGENDA FOR DISCUSSION.
SHOULD MAKE THAT KNOWN TO THE BOARD AT THIS TIME.
UH, DO WE HAVE ANYONE ON THE SIGNUP SHEET? ALRIGHT, SO, UH, JARED, YOU DON'T HAVE
[00:30:01]
TO SIGN IN TO SPEAK IF YOU WANT TOIT IS A BLESSING TO LIVE HERE.
I'VE NOW LIVED IN BRENTWOOD MORE THAN HALF OF MY LIFE.
AND, UM, IT IS A BLESSING TO HAVE TAUGHT HERE.
AND THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU'VE DONE FOR THE SCHOOLS AND, UM, YOU'VE DONE THAT FOR A LONG TIME.
AND, AND I'LL BE BACK TO SEE YOU AGAIN.
AND FOR THE RECORD, NAME AND ADDRESS.
I KNOW PLENTY TO ASK, RIGHT? SAY ANDRA SHYLY.
8 1 1 1 HILLDALE DRIVE, BRENTWOOD, TENNESSEE.
FOR WHAT MA'AM? YOU DO FOR THE SCHOOLS? YES MA'AM.
THANKS MR. SO I GUESS THAT'S WHAT MAKE YOU FEEL LEFT OUT.
CHRISTOPHER, DID YOU HAVE ANYTHING YOU'D LIKE TO ADD OR ALL SET? ALRIGHT, SO THAT COVERS OUR AUDIENCE.
STEVE, DID YOU WANNA SAY A THING?
ALRIGHT, SO, UH, ANY OTHER CITIZEN COMMENTS? I THINK WE'VE COVERED THE UNIVERSE.
SO CLOSE ASSISTANT COMMENTS, A REPORT
[ Report from City Manager Report from the City Attorney Reports and comments by Commissioners and Mayor]
FROM THE CITY MANAGER.UH, FIRST OF ALL, WE HAD A GREAT RESPONSE TO LAST WEEK OLD SMYRNA, UH, ROAD PUBLIC MEETING.
UH, WE HAD SEVERAL COMMUNITY MEMBERS THAT ATTENDED THE PRESENTATION AND THAT PRESENTATION IS AVAILABLE ON OUR CITY WEBSITE FOR THOSE THAT ARE INTERESTED IN SEEING IT.
UH, THE FOLKS THAT ATTENDED WERE ABLE TO TALK DIRECTLY WITH THE PROJECT CONSULTANTS, UH, ABOUT THE PROPOSED DESIGN ALTERNATIVES.
AND WE ASKED THEM TO SHARE THEIR THOUGHTS THROUGH AN ONLINE SURVEY.
UH, WE'VE RECEIVED 60 SURVEYS, 60 SURVEY RESPONSES TO DATE, WHICH IS TERRIFIC ACTUALLY.
UH, WE ALSO, UH, ASKED FOLKS TO WRITE THEIR THOUGHTS ON STICKY NOTES AND LEAVE THEM ON THE ACTUAL PLANS THEMSELVES.
AND, UH, A LOT OF PEOPLE DID THAT.
AND SO THE PROJECT CONSULTANT IS CURRENTLY ORGANIZING THAT FEEDBACK AND, UH, WILL PROVIDE IT, UH, TO YOU, UH, FOR A FUTURE BRIEFING AND CONVERSATION.
SO, UH, THAT WENT OVER VERY, VERY WELL.
UH, UH, DALE BIGGER STAFF, OUR, OUR PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR IS NOT ABLE TO BE HERE TONIGHT, UNFORTUNATELY, BUT I DID WANT TO OFFICIALLY PUBLICLY, UH, WELCOME HIM.
UH, AND WE'RE TAKING THE INTERIM TAG OFF OF HIM.
AND, UH, HE OFFICIALLY TODAY IS OUR PERMANENT PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR.
SO, UH, WE, UH, WHEN WE ANNOUNCED IT OVER AT THE DEPARTMENT, HE GOT A BIG HAND ACCORDING TO JAY.
SO THAT'S, THAT'S PRETTY COOL.
UM, YEAH, HE'S, UH, HE'S EXCITED TOO.
HE HAS OVER 29 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE, UH, LEADING AND MANAGING PUBLIC WATER UTILITIES.
AND IN PREVIOUSLY HE WORKED FOR US IN OUR PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT AS THE OPERATIONS SUPERINTENDENT.
JUNE, AS I MENTIONED AS THE INTERIM DIRECTOR.
AND HE DID A TERRIFIC JOB, UH, IN THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS.
HE, UH, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT STOOD OUT IS HIS CARING, UH, AND RESPONSIVE LEADERSHIP.
SO WE'RE GLAD TO HAVE HIM BACK AND EXCITED, UH, TO SEE WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS THERE.
AND FINALLY, THIS YEAR'S LEADERSHIP BRENTWOOD PROGRAM HELD ITS OPENING RETREAT AT CITY HALL HERE, UH, FRIDAY MORNING.
UH, THE WILLIAMSON INC PROGRAM BRINGS TOGETHER 20 LEADERS FROM ACROSS THE COMMUNITY TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE CITY AND THE SURROUNDING REGION.
SERVICE IS A MAJOR COMPONENT OF THE PROGRAM WITH PARTICIPANTS DEVELOPING THREE PROJECTS THAT ENHANCE THE COMMUNITY IN SOME WAY OR ANOTHER.
WE'RE EXCITED TO SEE WHAT THIS NEW CLASS WILL DO FOR THE CITY OF BRENTWOOD THIS YEAR.
I'D BE HAPPY TO TAKE ANY QUESTIONS? PRETTY GOOD.
ANY QUESTIONS FOR, UH, JASON? ALRIGHT, YEAH, I HAVE ONE.
ARE YOU GOING TO PUBLISH, UH, ANYWHERE THE RESULTS OF THE, UH, SURVEY? YEAH, I THINK WHAT WE HAVE THE WEBSITE OF INFORMATION FOR THE PROJECT.
ONCE WE HAVE ALL THAT INFORMATION TOGETHER, WE WILL GET THAT OUT ON THE WEBPAGE.
WE HAVE OUR, UH, EXTENSIVE REPORT FROM THE CITY ATTORNEY.
I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH TIME WE HAVE.
I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING FOR YOU TONIGHT.
ALRIGHT, SO THEN WE'LL MOVE ON TO REPORTS AND COMMENTS FROM THE COMMISSIONERS AND MAYOR.
SO TONIGHT, WE, UH, BELIEVE WE BEGIN WITH KEN.
UH, THANK YOU, UH, THANKS TO THE GROUPS FOR COMING TONIGHT.
IT'S GREAT TO BE ABLE TO GIVE THAT KIND OF MONEY, BUT IT'S ALSO NICE TO SEE PEOPLE THERE AND APPRECIATIVE TO RECEIVE IT.
AND THOSE WERE HEARTFELT THANKS THAT WE RECEIVED UP HERE.
THE TEAMS THAT CAME OUT AND SPOKE TO US, IT WAS MUCH APPRECIATED.
UM, JUST A COUPLE OF THINGS HERE.
I ATTENDED THE LEADERSHIP BRENTWOOD KICKOFF MEETING THIS LAST WEEK DOWN THERE.
UM, IT WAS, IT'S REALLY SPECIAL TO GO DOWN THERE AND SEE THOSE PEOPLE.
AND AS YOU KNOW, I REALLY LIKE THE CLOSING ONE WHEN THEY DO THEIR PROJECTS.
IT'S REALLY WORTH, WORTH GOING AND SEEING THAT.
UM, JUST TO LET YOU KNOW THAT THE PLANNING COMMISSION WILL HAVE ITS, UH, INFO MEETING ON THURSDAY, THIS THURSDAY, AUGUST 28TH, EIGHT O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING.
THE REGULAR PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING WILL BE TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2ND BECAUSE OF LABOR DAY.
JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT, UM, WE HAVEN'T MET YET FOR THE INFO MEETING, BUT THE CURRENT AGENDA SHOWS 10 ITEMS ON CONSENT.
AND, UH, I THINK THAT'S PRETTY REMARKABLE.
10 ITEMS ON CONSENT, ONE THAT HAS TO BE DISCUSSED AT THE MEETING.
[00:35:01]
I'VE SAID THIS BEFORE, BUT I WANNA STRESS IT AGAIN.ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU SEE, YOU SAY, WELL, 10 ON CONSENT, Y'ALL DON'T DO VERY MUCH.
WELL, WE TALK ABOUT ALL 10 OF THOSE DURING THE INFO MEETING AND IT'S DISCUSSED IN DEPTH AND, UH, IT'S NOT JUST GLOSSED OVER.
THIS ISN'T SOMETHING THAT JUST HAPPENS, BUT I THINK IT ALSO SHOWS THAT THERE'S SIGNIFICANT ADHERENCE TO OUR RULES AND REGULATIONS THAT WE CAN PUT THESE KIND OF THINGS ON THE CONSENT AGENDA.
UM, WITH BOTH THE PLANNING COMMISSION AGENDA AND THE CITY, UH, COMMISSION AGENDAS, YOU CAN SIGN UP THROUGH OUR WEBSITE TO RECEIVE THOSE IF THE CITIZENS WANT, WANT TO RECEIVE, UM, COPIES OF THOSE.
SO YOU DO SEE WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE CITY.
IT'S KIND OF, KIND OF A QUICK WAY TO LOOK AND SEE WHAT'S GOING ON.
UM, JUST WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE CHRISTOPHER RAND, WHO'S, UH, SHOULD BE, UM, MAYOR'S APPOINTMENT LATER ON THE NIGHT.
GLAD YOU COULD COME TODAY, CHRISTOPHER.
JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU FOR, FOR VOLUNTEERING THIS.
UH, COMMISSIONER VIN? UH, YEAH, I JUST WANT TO TAG ON TO WHAT HE SAID ABOUT THE, THE PLANNING COMMISSION.
UH, OUR PLANNING AND CODES DEPARTMENT DOES A REMARKABLE JOB OF PRE-VETTING AND DOING EVERYTHING ADMINISTRATIVELY POSSIBLE TO MAKE OUR LIVES SO LUXURIOUS.
SO WE APPRECIATE THEM VERY, VERY MUCH.
AND, UH, NOT THAT WE DON'T HAVE A DISCUSSION BECAUSE SOMETIMES IT, IT USED TO GET PRETTY LIVELY.
UH, SO I, UH, ONTO MY REPORT TONIGHT WAS FOR THE TREE BOARD.
I FINALLY GOT TO GO TO A TREE BOARD MEETING.
AND, UH, THE FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS THAT WE HAD WAS A DISCUSS DISCUSSION OF INSTITUTING, UH, BYLAWS FOR THE TREE BOARD.
AND WE RESPECTFULLY REQUESTED THAT OUR CITY ATTORNEY, KRISTIN KORN, UH, CREATE A DRAFT OF THOSE THAT WE COULD THEN SEND TO THE TREE BOARD FOR TWEAKING AND, UH, DISCUSS AT A FUTURE DATE.
WE WILL ALSO BE UPDATING OUR MISSION STATEMENT.
UM, SATURDAY, AUGUST 23RD AT 10:30 AM AT THE LIBRARY, WE'RE GONNA HAVE A WALK AND TALK SESSION WITH THE VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE, VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE CERTIFIED ARBORIST BLUE CURRY OF BARTLETT TREE EXPERTS.
AND LIKE I SAID, THAT WILL BE AT THE BRENTWOOD LIBRARY ARBORETUM.
UH, HE WILL BE DISCUSSING TREE CARE AND OTHER RELATED CONCERNS.
AND, UH, JUST ONE NOTE, ALL ATTENDEES WILL BE INSTRUCTED TO GATHER OUTSIDE OR TO MEET OUTSIDE.
AND, UH, BY THE WAY, THANKS TO, UH, PLANNING COMMISSION, UH, PLANNING COMMISSIONER AND FELLOW TREE BOARD MEMBER TRACY STADNIK FOR THIS TIMELY REMINDER.
UM, BY THE WAY, BLUE HAS TOLD US THAT THE EMERALD ASH BOER, I GUESS YOU GUYS HAVE HEARD ABOUT THAT GUY, IS STILL A BIG PROBLEM IN THE REGION.
AND NOW WE ARE UNFORTUNATELY ADDING A RED BUD WILT AND DIEBACK DISEASE TO THAT LIST.
AND WE'VE, WE'RE SEEING SOME RED BUD TREES GOING DOWN AS QUICKLY AS SIX TO NINE MONTHS.
SO KEEP YOUR EYES ON YOUR TREES, KEEP THEM SPRAYED, GO TO THE WEBSITE FOR INFORMATION ON THAT SORT OF THING.
UH, BUT THOSE ARE ADDED TO THE CURRENT LIST OF TREE SCOURGES IN THE REGION.
AND WE'VE ALSO BEEN WARNED THAT A CLOSE EYE SHOULD BE KEPT ON OUR BEACH TREES.
AND I HAVE A GREAT BIG EUROPEAN BEACH IN MY YARD.
THAT'S A HUGE TREE AND ONE OF MY FAVORITES.
BUT, UH, WE ARE SUPPOSED TO WATCH THAT FOR POTENTIAL ISSUES.
THEY DIDN'T ELABORATE WHAT THOSE ISSUES WERE, BUT THAT WE SHOULD KEEP AN EYE ON 'EM.
UH, AND OUR NEXT TREE TALK WILL BE SPONSORED BY, THE TREE BOARD WILL BE HELD ON OCTOBER THE FIRST FROM FIVE 30 TO SIX 30.
I THINK THAT'S ACTUALLY FIVE 30 TO SEVEN.
UH, BUT IF YOU'RE THERE AT SIX 30, HANG HANG IN.
IF IT'S ANOTHER HALF AN HOUR, THAT, THAT TALK WILL BE GIVEN BY ARBORIST ALEXANDER BREMNER.
AND THE TOPIC WILL BE TREE INVASIVES.
THERE IS NO COST FOR THAT EVENT.
AND, UH, I DO HAVE ONE THING, THE MEMORIAL TREE, THE DISCUSSION THAT WE HAD, UH, THERE WAS, UH, A NOTE TO FILL OUT AN IN TOC UH, AN INTAKE FORM, EXCUSE ME, THROUGH THE CITY WEBSITE.
I WILL SAY THAT LINK DIDN'T WORK FOR ME AND I WASN'T ABLE TO FIND ANY, UH, SUBSEQUENT LINKS.
SO WE MAY HAVE TO DIG BACK INTO THAT BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE STARTING TO ASK ABOUT THE MEMORIAL TREAT, UH, PROGRAM.
SO WE, WE'LL GET BACK TO THAT.
AND FINALLY, ON A FUN NOTE, A TIME CAPSULE WILL BE OPENED ON OCTOBER 5TH AT 2:00 PM AT THE LIBRARY.
BE THERE NO WORD YET ON WHETHER GERALDO RIVERA WILL BE THERE, BUT WE'LL KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR IT.
THE OCTOBER 1ST EVENT AT FIVE 30 TO SEVEN.
WHERE IS THAT? IT'S AT THE LIBRARY.
I THANK COMMISSIONER MAYOR, UH, COMMISSIONER DUNN.
THE HISTORIC BOARD MET LAST WEEK AND THE MAJORITY OF OUR MEETING WAS TAKEN UP WITH REPORTS EXPLAINING WHERE
[00:40:01]
WE ARE IN THE STAGES OF VARIOUS PROJECTS.UM, AND WHILE I'M THINKING ABOUT IT, UH, PAM VADEN, BRENTWOOD HIGH, I MEAN, WELL BRENTWOOD AND RAVENWOOD HIGH SCHOOL.
SHE HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE BIGGEST SUPPORTER OF THE HISTORY BOWL.
SHE HAS NEVER MISSED ONE OF THEM.
SHE COMES WITH HER STUDENTS AND ATTENDS EVERY SINGLE ONE.
SO SHE WILL BE MISSED AFTER THIS YEAR.
UM, ONE INTERESTING ITEM WE HAD AT THE, UM, HISTORIC BOARD.
UH, YOU KNOW, WE DON'T HAVE ANY BINDING AUTHORITY TO STOP ANYBODY FROM DOING THINGS.
BUT THE PLANNING COMMISSION AND THE BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS WILL ASK OUR RECOMMENDATION AND THEY'RE FREE TO ACCEPT IT OR NOT.
UH, THERE WAS A, A PROPERTY THAT WILL BE GOING BEFORE THE BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS AND THEY WERE KIND ENOUGH TO BRING IT TO US FOR A RECOMMENDATION.
AND WE STIPULATE THAT WE HAD NO PROBLEM WITH WHAT THE APPLICANT WANTED TO DO.
SO IT WILL BE UP TO THE BCA, WHAT THEY DECIDE.
BUT WE DO APPRECIATE THAT OPPORTUNITY TO WEIGH IN THERE.
NOW, IT'S WONDERFUL TO ME TO SEE ALL THESE TEACHERS AND PRINCIPALS AND COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS 'CAUSE THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE.
THEY, THE, SOME ARE EMPLOYEES, BUT SOME ARE VOLUNTEERS THAT MAKE THINGS HAPPEN IN BRENTWOOD.
BELIEVE ME, IF THE, THE CITIZENS DIDN'T BACK THIS, THE CITY COMMISSION WOULD NOT BE VOTING THAT MANY DOLLARS EVERY YEAR.
SO IT'S COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AND WHAT THEY WERE SAYING ABOUT THE SPORTS PROGRAMMING, THAT PARTNERSHIP IS SO VERY IMPORTANT TO US AND TO THEM, WE GET SOMETHING FROM THEIR RUNNING THOSE PROGRAMS. SO DON'T UNDERESTIMATE, WE'RE NOT JUST GIVING THEM MONEY.
THEY'RE HELPING THE CITY AT LARGE BY DOING THAT.
NOW, I DON'T WANT TO BE A SOUR NOTE ON THE NIGHT, BUT I'M GOING TO BE IT.
I WANTED TO TRAP DR. GOLDEN BEFORE HE GOT OUT AND ASK HIM A QUESTION.
I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY MONEY THAT WE AS A CITY AND AS A CITY COMMISSION OFFER TO THE SCHOOLS TO ENHANCE THEIR PROGRAMS IS HAVING TO BUY DESKS.
THAT IS A SCHOOL BOARD COUNTY RESPONSIBILITY.
THERE WAS A LITTLE OF THAT LAST YEAR, AND I DON'T KNOW IF WE GOT THE MESSAGE BACK TO THEM BECAUSE WE, WE HAD SOME TURNOVER IN THE, IN OUR HIGHER OFFICES OVER THERE.
SO IT MIGHT NOT HAVE GOTTEN BACK TO THEM.
NOW I KNOW THEY DESPERATELY NEED THEM, BUT THAT WAS NOT THE INTENTION WHEN WE STARTED GIVING EXTRA MONEY.
IT WAS FOR ENHANCEMENTS, LIKE DR.
VADEN SAID, THE VIOLAS THE THINGS THAT THEY WOULDN'T HAVE OTHERWISE.
THOSE ENHANCED, UM, UM, APPS THAT THEY'RE USING IN THE DIFFERENT CLASSROOMS, THOSE ARE VALUABLE.
AND I DON'T WANT TO SOUND PUT A NEGATIVE NOTE ON A WONDERFUL NIGHT, AND I DON'T BLAME THEM FOR BUYING DEATHS AND, BUT I, I REALLY THINK WE NEED TO SOUND AN ALARM THAT IN A COUNTY THIS WELL OFF THAT DEATHS ARE 30 YEARS OLD AND WE HAVE TO USE OUR DONATION MONEY TO REPLACE DEATHS IN A SCHOOL THAT'S, I THINK THAT'S UNFORGIVABLE.
SO I DON'T WANT TO BE A, A DEBBIE DOWNER, BUT I JUST HAD TO SAY THAT.
CAN I, CAN I COMMENT THERE? SURE.
I I FEEL THE SAME WAY, ANN, WHEN THEY SAID THAT, AND I THOUGHT WE PUT SOMETHING IN OUR DONATIONS THAT SAID THEY COULDN'T BE USED FOR FURNITURE, BUT IF WE DIDN'T GET IT IN THERE, WE WELL, WE MIGHT HAVE SPELLED IT OUT AS CLEARLY AS WE SHOULD HAVE.
WE MAY, WE MAY NEED TO ENHANCE IT.
AND I DON'T WANT THE PRINCIPLES TO TAKE THAT AS ANY CRITICISM OF THEM.
NO, THEY'RE, THEY'RE COBBLING TOGETHER THE BEST THEY CAN DO.
SO REALLY, LIKE YOU SAY, IT'S ON THE SCHOOL BOARD AND THE COUNTY COMMISSION TO PROPERLY FUND THE, THE DAY-TO-DAY ASPECTS OF THE SCHOOL.
SO, YOU KNOW, CONTRIBUTORY THE ENHANCEMENT.
IT'S OVER AND ABOVE THE REGULAR SCHOOL OPERATION.
ALRIGHT, IS THAT'S ALL I HAVE.
UM, MAYOR, UH, THE PARK BOARD WILL MEET SEPTEMBER 2ND, LIKE THE PLANNING COMMISSION ON TUESDAY AFTER LABOR DAY.
AND, UM, WE WILL HAVE OUR THREE NEW, HOPEFULLY, UH, THREE NEW MEMBERS JOIN US AND WE'LL BE A FULL STAFF, SO THAT'S EXCITING.
[00:45:01]
LET'S SEE, SORRY, TROOP, UM, THE BOY SCOUT TROOP NUMBER ONE AND NUMBER 86 TROOP 86 TROOP ONE.I DON'T KNOW IF I'M SAYING THAT RIGHT.
I HAVE AN EAGLE SCOUT, BUT I DUNNO IF THAT'S RIGHT.
UM, SO, BUT THEY, UM, IF YOU NOTICE MARYLAND FARMS, UM, LOOKING SPARKLY AND CLEAN, IT'S BECAUSE THEY WERE OUT THERE SATURDAY MORNING WITH, WAS IT MORNING OR AFTERNOON? ROTARY MORNING.
AND UM, BUT THERE WAS A GREAT CREW OF, OF GUYS OUT THERE, UM, CLEANING UP AND DOING A GREAT JOB.
AND SO A BIG SHOUT OUT TO THEM.
UM, AND THEN, UH, UH, WENDY HILL PARK IS ON TRACK FOR, I DON'T KNOW IF WE HAVE THE RESTROOMS YET, BUT WE WILL, I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S BEEN, IF THEY'VE BEEN DELIVERED, BUT I'LL FIND OUT THIS NEXT MEETING AND GET BACK TO YOU ON THAT PROGRESS.
UM, I'M TRYING, DO YOU THINK WE HAVE A TARGET DATE YET, OR, I WAS TOLD THE END OF SEPTEMBER, BUT THAT WAS AT OUR LAST MEETING, SO I WILL, I WILL FIND OUT BECAUSE IT'S FAST APPROACHING.
SO I WILL FIND OUT AND WE, WE'LL HAVE ANSWERS, UM, SHORTLY.
UM, AND OTHERWISE, UM, A BIG SHOUT OUT ALSO TO THE POLICE FOR THEIR MONITORING OF THE SCHOOL BACK IN SESSION AND ALL THE SPEEDING
I DID NOT REALIZE THERE ARE 17, IS THAT RIGHT? IS THAT, HOW MANY SCHOOL ZONES ARE THERE THAT Y'ALL MONITOR? THERE'S GOOD WITH THAT.
AND, UM, AND IT'S, Y'ALL ARE DOING A GREAT JOB AND UM, SO THANK YOU FOR BEING THERE TO HELP KIND OF KEEP PEOPLE IN CHECK DURING, UM, SCHOOLS, UM, OUT.
SO, UM, AND REALLY, OH, LAST THING.
I DON'T KNOW IF I'M STEALING ANYONE'S THUNDER, BUT IT WAS AWESOME.
IT WAS
THERE WERE RECORD 125 UNITS, IS THAT RIGHT? HUNDRED 22.
SO THAT, AND I GUESS THE GOAL WAS A HUNDRED, SO WE DID A GREAT JOB.
WE, I GUESS WE WON'T TALK ABOUT THAT
WELL, YEAH, I JUST, I REALIZED THAT AS I SAID IT.
ANYWAY, THAT'S ALL I HAVE, MAYOR.
I WANT TO ECHO WHAT COMMISSIONER DUNN SAID.
UM, I DO FIND IT A LITTLE DISTURBING THAT THE SCHOOLS, EACH INDIVIDUAL SCHOOL IS PROVIDING FOR STANDARD EQUIPMENT IN THEIR SCHOOL.
AND I WOULD THINK THAT DESKS AND CHAIRS AND TEACHER'S DESKS SHOULD BE COVERED.
UM, AND THAT'S WHAT I'M GONNA SAY ON THAT.
UM, I DO APPRECIATE THE CITY MANAGER AND THE ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER FOR FINDING US SUCH STELLAR DIRECTORS AND INCOMING DIRECTORS.
UM, IT'S NICE TO KNOW THAT THERE ARE SUCCESSION PLANS THAT DEPARTMENTS THAT DON'T HAVE THAT, THOUGH WE'RE, WE'RE GETTING PEOPLE THAT ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE CITY, UH, OFTENTIMES.
AND SO THE, WE HAVE A LOT OF CONTINUITY IN KEEPING OUR CITY GREAT.
UM, AND, AND I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT, UH, THE LIBRARY, UH, NOT MUCH GOING ON IN TERMS OF NEW PROJECTS.
THE FOCUS, UM, FOR THE, FOR THE BOARD HAS BEEN THE TEEN CENTER.
UH, THERE'S TWO PROJECTS THAT WE'RE GONNA GO CONCURRENTLY, THE TEEN CENTER AND THE NEW QUIET ROOM.
AND WE NEEDED TO SPEND A LOT MORE TIME FOCUSING ON THE TEEN CENTER, WHICH IS GOING WHERE THE QUIET ROOM USED TO BE, WHICH USED TO BE WHERE THE AV ROOM IS.
SO IF YOU'RE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THAT SPACE IS, SO TO TRY TO NOT HAVE IT BE A FISHBOWL WHERE EVERYBODY CAN WALK BY AND LOOK IN ON THE TEAMS BEING THERE, UH, AND TO JUST MAKE IT A, A SPACE WHERE, UM, THEY WANT TO STUDY.
UH, AND THAT MIGHT SOUND KIND OF WEIRD.
AND THAT'S, WE, THERE'S BEEN SOME DISCONNECT BETWEEN THE DESIGN FIRM AND THE BOARD.
AND IT'S BECAUSE OUR TEENS ON LAKE TEENS AND A LOT OF OTHER CITIES, ACTUALLY, THEIR PRIMARY FOCUS WAS, WE WANT A SPACE TO STUDY.
SO I'M HAPPY ABOUT THAT AS A PARENT OF, YOU KNOW, FORMER TEENS.
UM, AND, AND SO, UH, WE'RE PUTTING A LOT OF EMPHASIS NOW TRYING TO REFOCUS OURSELVES AND THE DESIGN TEAM AND HOPE TO HAVE SOME PRELIMINARY PLANS ON AT OUR SEPTEMBER 8TH MEETING.
UH, THE FRIENDS GATHER AREA SEEMS TO BE COMPLETE.
THE AREA RUGS ARE IN, ALL THE FURNITURE'S IN, SO IF YOU HAVEN'T STOPPED IN THE FRIENDS GATHER AREA AT THE BEGINNING, OR YOU KNOW, THE ENTRY AREA TO THE LIBRARY, PLEASE DO THAT.
AND IF YOU NOTICE SOME NEW COLORFUL FURNITURE AROUND, UH, THEY USED SOME OF THE MONEY THAT WAS LEFT OVER FROM THE GATHER AREA TO RECOVER ALL THE BENCHES.
SO THERE'S EIGHT BENCHES LIKE IN THE LOBBY AND SOME OTHER AREAS.
THEY ALL NOW HAVE SOME BRIGHT BLUE CUSHIONS AND LOOK VERY COMFORTABLE AND PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY SITTING ON THEM, SO.
SO MOVING ON, UH, VICE MAYOR LITTLE.
UH, THANK YOU, UH, MAYOR, UM, NO BOARD REPORT AS FAR AS THE EAP OR THE VETERANS MONUMENT COMMITTEE, BUT, UM, I TOO WANT TO TOUCH, I FELT PRETTY CERTAIN WE HAD PUT STIPULATIONS IN ABOUT THAT MONEY NOT BEING USED FOR, UM,
[00:50:01]
THINGS LIKE FURNISHINGS OR REPAIRING SOMETHING IN A BATHROOM OR WHATEVER.IT SHOULDN'T BE WHAT WOULD BE CONSIDERED OPERATING EXPENSES.
SO HOPEFULLY THAT'LL BE, WE CAN, UM, MAKE SURE THAT THEY UNDERSTAND THAT, THAT IT WAS FOR THE EXTRAS.
UH, AND AS OTHER COMMISSIONERS HAVE SAID, AND ESPECIALLY COMMISSIONER DONN, THE CITIZENS ARE THE ONES THAT GIVE THE MONEY.
SO, UH, I'M, I'M A CITIZEN, I GIVE A LITTLE BIT, BUT WE, WE ARE APPRECIATIVE THAT OUR CITIZENS ALLOW US TO DO THAT.
UM, EDUCATION IS VERY IMPORTANT.
OUR SERVICE PROVIDERS ARE VERY IMPORTANT.
UH, THE MARTIN CENTER, UH, THE MILLS ON WHEELS, MID CUMBERLAND, I'VE TOUCHED ON THOSE OVER THE TIME, BUT TONIGHT, I, AS I THOUGHT ABOUT IT AND HAVING, UH, BEEN ABLE TO BE A PART OF THIS CEREMONY, UH, 16 TIMES, UH, IT'S A, IT'S A REALLY A, IT'S REALLY A NEAT THING.
I, I, MY GRANDFATHER RAY LITTLE SENIOR IN OCTOBER OF THIS YEAR WOULD BE 117.
HE WAS RAISED AT THE CORNER OF EVANSTON PIKE, CONCORD ROAD ON A DAIRY FARM CALLED LOCUST TILL DAIRIES.
UM, HE WENT TO A ONE ROOM SCHOOL, FIRST THROUGH EIGHTH GRADE AT LIBERTY METHODIST CHURCH.
LIBERTY CHURCH SCHOOL, WHICH I THINK IS WELL OVER A CENTURY AND A HALF OLD.
UH, THE CHURCH WAS ESTABLISHED BY, UM, OR PART OF IT, OF HELPING ESTABLISH IT.
BUT MY GREAT GREAT GREAT GRANDFATHER HAM HUNT ALONG WITH EARLY SETTLERS LIKE GREEN HILL, UM, I THINK NOT LONG AFTER THAT, THEY BEGAN TO REALIZE THAT THEY NEEDED TO EDUCATE THEIR CHILDREN AND IN THAT DAY SO THEY COULD READ THE BIBLE AND, UM, BE LITERATE.
AND HOW THEY DID THAT IS ALL THE FAMILIES IN A PARTICULAR AREA WOULD GATHER TOGETHER AND THEY WOULD RAISE ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY FOR A TEACHER.
AND SO THEY WOULD HIRE A TEACHER.
AND OFTEN THE TEACHER WOULD, SOMETIMES THE TEACHER WAS SOMEONE WHO WAS ALREADY IN THE COMMUNITY, BUT SOMETIMES THE TEACHER LIVED AT ONE OF THE FARMHOUSES.
AND SO, PERSONALLY I WAS BLESSED TO GO TO NORTHSIDE JUNIOR HIGH MIDDLE, AND AT THAT TIME FRANKLIN HIGH SCHOOL BECAUSE THERE WAS NOT A BRENTWOOD HIGH SCHOOL.
AND I THINK HOW FAR OUR EDUCATION HAS PROGRESSED, BUT EDUCATION HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN IMPORTANT THING IN BRENTWOOD.
AND UH, I WAS BLESSED TO, UH, UH, AND I'LL MENTION THE PRINCIPAL SINCE WE HAD PRINCIPALS HERE THIS EVENING, BUT, UH, MR. FLEMING, DR. FLEMING AT NORTHSIDE, MR. HARDISON, UM, MR. HANKINS AND MR. CARL PIKE AT FRANKLIN, AND OF COURSE EVERYBODY'S BELOVED PRINCIPAL AT BRENTWOOD HIGH SCHOOL, BUT I HAD HIM AS A PRINCIPAL AT FRANKLIN HIGH SCHOOL, JAMES PARKER.
AND I THINK I COULD LITERALLY NAME AND I WON'T DO THAT, BUT I COULD NAME MANY, MANY TEACHERS.
BUT ALL OF THOSE PRINCIPLES HAD GREAT INFLUENCES ON ME.
UM, AND I THINK WHAT A SPECIAL THING IT IS TO BE A SMALL PART OF BEING ABLE TO GIVE BACK TO THESE SCHOOLS.
AND OUR SCHOOLS ARE EXCELLENT.
THEY ARE BY FAR THE BEST IN TENNESSEE FOR A COUNTY.
OUR TWO HIGH SCHOOLS RANK REAL HIGH IN THE STATE.
THEY ALSO RANK REAL HIGH IN THE NATION.
AND, UM, GOING BACK TO THE EXAMPLE OF THE ONE ROOM SCHOOL AND ALL THE PARENTS GETTING TOGETHER TO PAY FOR THE TEACHERS, A BIG PART OF OUR SCHOOL SUCCESS IS THE CITIZEN INVOLVEMENT AND THE PARENTS' INVOLVEMENT IN OUR SCHOOLS AS WELL AS OUR EDUCATORS BEING VERY WILLING TO PARTNER WITH THE PARENTS.
SO WE LIVE IN A BUBBLE IN A VERY SPECIAL WAY WHEN IT COMES TO EDUCATION.
AND WE'RE VERY BLESSED WITH OUR SCHOOLS AND OUR EDUCATORS.
AND SO THANK YOU BRENTWOOD CITIZENS FOR ALLOWING WE COMMISSIONERS TO BE ALLOWED TO, UH, TO GIVE.
ALRIGHT, SO, UH, WE'VE GOT A FEW THINGS TO COVER.
UM, ONE THING IS, UH, UH, CITY MANAGER GAGE AND I WERE, UH, AT THE GREATER NASHVILLE REGIONAL COUNCIL, UH, MEETING LAST WEEK, AND THE FOCUS IS ON ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING INITIATIVES.
UM, SO WE SPENT ABOUT TWO HOURS GOING THROUGH SOME DETAILED INITIATIVES.
I'M GONNA TRY TO SUMMARIZE IT FOR YOU ALL IN 40 MINUTES OR LESS,
UM, SO THE, THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT THEY, THEY COVER A NUMBER OF THINGS THAT WE DO PRETTY WELL HERE IN BRENTWOOD.
UM, SOME THINGS THAT REALLY WANNA KIND OF MENTION THAT THEY, THEY CALLED OUT, THEY DIDN'T CALL US OUT BY NAME, BUT, UH, COULDN'T MISS IT.
UH, OPEN SPACE DEDICATION IS A BIG DEAL FOR THAT STUFF.
[00:55:01]
YOU KNOW, IN PARTICULAR, I THINK THE WAY WE'RE ABLE TO PRESERVE OPEN SPACE IN OUR OSRD DEVELOPMENTS AND OUR PARKS AND GREENWAYS, UH, IS REALLY IMPORTANT, SIGNIFICANT.OUR, OUR TREE RETENTION CANOPY AND TREE CITY USA STATUS IS A BIG DEAL.
AND I MENTIONED TREES IS A, IS A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF BOTH AIR AND WATER QUALITY.
UM, OUR WORK TO IMPROVE OUR STORM WATER AND SEWER SYSTEMS, WHICH, YOU KNOW, WE'VE GOT A A AN ONGOING PROJECT OVER DECADES IN TERMS OF STORM WATER, OR EXCUSE ME, SEWER REHABILITATION.
THEN ALSO THE, UH, STORMWATER EQUALIZATION TANK THAT'S GETTING READY TO COME UP IN TOWER PARK.
YOU KNOW, BEING ABLE TO DO THESE THINGS TO HELP MAKE SURE WE DON'T GET AFFLUENT INTO OUR, OUR RIVERS AND CREEKS IS A BIG DEAL.
AND EVEN, UH, THE WORK TO EXTEND OUR BIKE AND PEDESTRIAN ROUTES AND HAVE, YOU KNOW, WAYS TO, UH, ACCESS DIFFERENT CITY RESOURCES LIKE THAT IS, UM, THEY MENTIONED THAT AS AN IMPORTANT THING, BUT THAT'S NOT TO SAY THAT WE DON'T HAVE, UH, ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT.
UH, SO YOU KNEW THE OTHER SHOE WAS GONNA DROP.
UM, THEY MENTIONED SOME THINGS, AND I'D REALLY LIKE TO THINK, YOU KNOW, BOTH AS A COMMISSION, BUT ALSO WITH OUR BOARDS.
UM, THEY MENTIONED ENCOURAGING RAIN GARDENS AND PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES TO BOTH STAFF AND THE COMMUNITY TO BE DOING RAIN GARDENS AND DIFFERENT THINGS LIKE THAT THAT CAN HELP WITH WATER QUALITY.
AND ALSO, UH, YOU KNOW, THE, THE, THE LIBRARY HAS A BEAUTIFUL POLLINATOR GARDEN.
UM, THEY MENTIONED, UH, IMPLEMENTING FILTER STRIPS, UH, ALONG DIFFERENT AREAS TO HELP TO CAPTURE FERTILIZER AND OTHER AFFLUENT BEFORE IT GETS INTO THE CREEKS AND RIVERS.
AND, UH, SIMILARLY, UM, THEY TALKED QUITE A BIT ABOUT THE RIPARIAN BUFFERS, UH, AND PLANTINGS TO ENCOURAGE AND ENCOURAGING THEIR USE ALONG THE WATERWAYS AND THE RIVERS.
AND THAT ONE REALLY KIND OF HIT HOME PARTICULARLY FOR ME IN THE SENSE THAT, YOU KNOW, THE RIPARIAN BUFFER IS ALL THAT STUFF ALONG A CREEK OR RIVER THAT TO THE CASUAL EYE MIGHT LOOK MESSY, BUT IT MAKES A BIG IMPACT ON WATER QUALITY.
AND I KNOW OUR HOA IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD GOT A LITTLE AGGRESSIVE A COUPLE YEARS, A LITTLE OVER ENTHUSIASTIC, AND THEY, THEY WEED EAT OR EAT IT, AND THEN THEY POISONED THE WHOLE RIPARIAN BUFFER RIGHT ALONG THE CREEK, UH, ON ONE SIDE BEFORE THE NEIGHBORS KIND OF GOT 'EM SETTLED DOWN AND STOP.
BUT IT'S TAKEN YEARS TO GROW BACK.
BUT REALIZING THAT THESE BUFFERS ALONG THE CREEKS AND RIVERS MAKE A BIG IMPACT ON WATER QUALITY.
AND, UM, AND THEN REALLY JUST CONTINUING TO PROMOTE THE EXPANSION OF OUR TREE CANOPY, YOU KNOW, ENCOURAGING THE USE OF A VARIETY OF TENNESSEE NATIVE TREES.
AS COMMISSIONER PIPPIN MENTIONED, YOU KNOW, IF WE HAVE TOO MANY OF ANY ONE SPECIES, YOU CAN HAVE SOMETHING DO A LOT OF DAMAGE QUICKLY.
BUT IF WE HAVE A BIG VARIETY IN OUR CANOPY AND ALONG THOSE LINES, UM, AND THIS IS A, A, SOMETHING THAT STICKS OUT TO ME PERSONALLY, IS HELPING TO TEACH THE COMMUNITY TO PROPERLY PRUNE THEIR TREES.
YOU SEE SO OFTEN IN, IN THE NEIGHBORHOODS FOR PEOPLE TO GO OUT THERE AND THEY TOP THE TREES.
I HAVE GOOD FRIENDS THAT ARE VERY WELL EDUCATED, KNOWLEDGEABLE PEOPLE THAT WILL USE THE TERM, OH, I NEED TO GET MY TREES TOPPED.
AND THEY'LL ASK SOMEBODY TO COME OUT WITH A, A, A, A CHERRY PICKER AND A CHAINSAW AND TRIM THEIR TREE LIKE A BUSH, WHICH IS, FRANKLY, I WOULD MAKE THAT ILLEGAL IF I COULD, BUT, UM, CRATE MURDER.
YOU KNOW, BUT SO, UH, SO I BRING THIS UP JUST BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, WE'VE GOT GREAT ASSETS FROM OUR TREE BOARD TO OUR ENVIRONMENTAL BOARD, UM, OUR PARKS BOARD AND THE PLANNING COMMISSION, FRANKLY, THAT CAN HELP WITH THESE EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS.
I THINK AS THEY'RE LOOKING FOR THINGS TO WORK ON, I WOULD LOVE FOR THEM TO TAKE A LOOK.
AND WE'VE GOT RESOURCES AVAILABLE THROUGH THE GREATER NASHVILLE REGIONAL COUNCIL.
EVEN, UM, WE WERE AT A THING OVER THE ZOO THIS SUMMER, AND EVEN THE ZOO MADE A BIG POINT TO TALK ABOUT THE WILDLIFE IN THE RIVERS AND STREAMS IN MIDDLE TENNESSEE AND RESOURCES.
THE ZOO HAS TO HELP PROMOTE WATER QUALITY AND PROMOTE THESE DIFFERENT THINGS.
AND THEY WOULD LOVE TO COME TO THE, WELL, THE ENVIRONMENTAL BOARD TO DO DIFFERENT THINGS TO HELP COLLABORATE ON THESE DIFFERENT PROJECTS.
SO I KNOW SOMETIMES WE GET ON THESE BOARDS AND WE THINK, WELL, WHAT SHOULD WE BE SPENDING OUR TIMES DOING? AND, YOU KNOW, COMMISSIONER PIPPEN MENTIONED BYLAWS AND STUFF, WHICH IS GREAT.
I THINK BYLAWS ARE FINE, BUT I'M NOT SURE HOW MUCH BUREAUCRACY IS GONNA ADD VALUE TO THESE THINGS.
I'D REALLY LIKE TO SEE US, YOU KNOW, REALLY AS LEADERS IN THIS COMMISSION WORK ON THE MISSION OF THE, OF THESE BOARDS IN THE CITY.
AND FRANKLY, LIKE I SAID, I THINK BRENTWOOD IS DOING A GREAT JOB ENVIRONMENTALLY, BUT I THINK IT'S A TRADITIONAL STRENGTH OF OURS THAT WE CAN CONTINUE TO BUILD ON.
AND ALONG THOSE LINES, UM, KIND OF PIVOTING TO A RELATED TOPIC.
YOU KNOW, WE'VE TALKED ABOUT THE, THE BRENTWOOD 2030 PLAN AND THE UPDATED, YOU KNOW, DOING AN UPDATE FOR THE 2040 PLAN.
UM, I WANNA MAKE IT A POINT TO REALLY ENCOURAGE EVERYBODY, YOU KNOW, BOTH ON THE COMMISSION, BUT ON OUR VOLUNTEER BOARDS IN THE COMMUNITY TO GO AND JUST TAKE THE TIME TO
[01:00:01]
SEARCH ON A COUPLE THINGS.FOR EXAMPLE, YOU KNOW, OPEN UP A SEARCH BROWSER AND PLUG IN CITY OF BRENTWOOD, TENNESSEE, MAJOR THOROUGHFARE PLAN AND SEE WHAT COMES UP AND, AND READ THROUGH IT.
'CAUSE YOU KNOW, AS PART OF THE 20 20, 20 30 PLAN, WHICH, YOU KNOW, COMMISSIONER DUNN, COMMISSIONER LITTLE DID A LOT OF TIME AND WORK ON, WE HAVE A MAJOR THOROUGHFARE PLAN THAT'S PART OF THE LONG-TERM PLAN FOR THE, UM, FOR THE COMMUNITY.
AND I THINK BEING FAMILIAR WITH WHERE WE ARE NOW WILL HELP US AS WE PLAN FOR 2040.
SIMILARLY, I'D LOVE TO SEE PEOPLE PULL UP THE ACTUAL BRENTWOOD 2030 PLAN.
IT'S NOT SHORT, IT'S NOT A QUICK READ, BUT I THINK IT'S WORTHWHILE AS WE'RE PLANNING FOR 2040.
YOU KNOW, IT'S BEEN 10 YEARS SINCE WE'VE REALLY LOOKED AT IT, SO AS A STARTING POINT, YOU KNOW, GET FAMILIAR WITH IT, YOU KNOW, SIMILARLY, YOU KNOW, SEARCH FOR CITY OF BRENTWOOD, TENNESSEE PEDESTRIAN PLAN, IT'S BEEN ABOUT 10 YEARS, BUT WE HAVE A FULL RESEARCHED PLAN WITH COMMUNITY INPUT, INPUT FOR, UH, YOU KNOW, PEDESTRIAN AND, AND BIKING PLANS THROUGH THE CITY.
SO AS WE'RE COMING THROUGH AND TAKING A LOOK AT A 2040 PLAN, I WOULD REALLY, REALLY LIKE TO ENCOURAGE, YOU KNOW, THE COMMISSION, THE COMMUNITY, OUR VOLUNTEER BOARDS, EVERYBODY TO, TO TAKE A LOOK AT THESE THINGS AND BRING THAT, YOU KNOW, THAT THOUGHTFUL PROCESS AND TAKE A LOOK AT BUILDING FORWARD ON 'EM.
'CAUSE WE HAVE A GREAT TRADITION IN BRENTWOOD OF DOING THESE.
UM, SO I JUST WANNA PLUG THAT, UM, BRIEFLY WANNA THANK THE STAFF.
YOU KNOW, WE'VE BEEN LOOKING INTO, UM, CELL PHONE COVERAGE WE'VE MENTIONED, I THINK IN EVERY COMMISSION MEETING THIS SUMMER, BUT CONTINUE TO TRY TO TAKE A LOOK AT, YOU KNOW, THE ELEMENTS THAT AFFECT THE CITY COMMISSION, WHICH HAS TO DO WITH HOW WE REGULATE THE TOWERS AND THE COVERAGE.
THE PLANNING COMMISSION, WHICH HAVE A, A ROLE IN TAKING A LOOK AT, YOU KNOW, HOW THESE GO THROUGH AND GET APPROVED AND THE CITY STAFF, YOU KNOW, AND REALLY PULLING ALL THESE THREADS TOGETHER IS, YOU KNOW, MY EXPERIENCE IN BRENTWOOD IS, WE'RE A VERY FORWARD THINKING COMMUNITY AND A VERY TECHNOLOGY POSITIVE COMMUNITY.
AND I DON'T THINK THERE'S ANY REASON THAT WE SHOULD HAVE A, A REPUTATION AS A ONE BAR COMMITTEE OR COMMUNITY FOR, FOR CELL POISONING DATA.
UM, ANYTHING ELSE WHILE WE'RE DOING COMMISSION REPORTS? NO.
WELL THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR INPUT AND YOUR COMMENTS ON THAT.
OH PLEASE, I APPRECIATE THAT YOU AND, UM, THE CITY MANAGER AND CITY STAFF ARE, ARE WORKING ON THE CELL PHONE COVERAGE BECAUSE THAT'S SOMETHING THAT PEOPLE DON'T SEE.
YOU KNOW, IT'S NOT A PHYSICAL THING THAT PEOPLE SEE AN IMPROVEMENT IN THE CITY THAT WAY, BUT IN TERMS OF QUALITY OF LIFE, UH, AND THINGS THAT CITIZENS ARE CONCERNED ABOUT, UM, IT'S BEEN TAUGHT FOR, FOR A FEW YEARS AND, UM, IT'S GOOD TO SEE THAT WE ARE STARTING TO REALIZE IT'S MORE THAN ONE LITTLE AREA OR ONE POCKET OF PEOPLE.
SO YEAH, I APPRECIATE THE STEPS YOU GUYS ARE TAKING.
AND I TELL YOU, I MEAN, NOT TO, NOT TO DWELL ON IT, BUT WE HAD SOME REMINDERS THIS SUMMER ACROSS THE COUNTRY ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF GOOD COMMUNICATION AND CELLULAR VOICE AND DATA, ESPECIALLY IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS.
SO, UH, WE WANNA SEE US GET AHEAD OF THAT.
ALRIGHT, SO THAT BRINGS US ON,
[ Consent Agenda]
UH, WITH NO FURTHER COMMENT TO THE CONSENT AGENDA.UH, NOTE ALL MATTERS LISTED UNDER THE CONSENT AGENDA ARE CONSIDERED TO BE ROUTINE AND WILL GENERALLY BE ENACTED ON ONE MOTION.
EXCEPT FOR ANY ITEMS THAT ARE REMOVED FROM THE CONSENT AGENDA.
THERE'LL BE NO SEPARATE DISCUSSIONS.
SO, UM, WE'VE NOT HAD ANYTHING ASKED TO BE REMOVED FROM THE CONSENT AGENDA.
ARE WE ALL SET? ALRIGHT, SO TO READ IT INTO THE RECORD CONSENT AGENDA, ITEM NUMBER ONE, RESOLUTION 2025 DASH 64 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AND AMENDMENT WITH MEDICAL BENEFITS ADMINISTRATORS INC.
MED BEND FOR PHARMACY BENEFIT MANAGEMENT FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2025 FOR ADOPTION CONSENT.

DO WE HAVE A MOTION? MOVE TO APPROVE? I'LL SECOND.
SECOND BY COMMISSIONER TRAVIS.
A OPPOSED? ALRIGHT, ABSTENTIONS PASSES.
[1. Appointment by Mayor of one (1) member to the Planning Commission]
BUSINESS ITEM NUMBER ONE APPOINTMENT BY THE MAYOR OF ONE MEMBER TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION.SO I'M HAPPY TO SAY I'M APPOINT CHRISTOPHER RAND, WHO I BELIEVE IS PRESENT TONIGHT TO OUR PLANNING COMMISSION.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTERESTED IN SERVING OUR COMMUNITY.
UH, DO WE HAVE ANY OTHER OLD BUSINESS BEFORE THE BOARD? UH, ANY NEW BUSINESS BEFORE THE BOARD.
ALRIGHT, SO WITH THAT, UH, DO WE HAVE AN MOTION TO ADJOURN? SO, MOTION.
SECOND BY COMMISSIONER DONAHUE.
[01:05:01]
SO ADJOURNED.HEY, THANKS FOR HANGING IN, Y'ALL.
